Berniece Ione Shaeffer, 98, of Boone, entered into rest Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone. Graveside services were held Monday, April 23, at the Bass Point Cemetery, north of Boone. Rev Gary Sneller officiated the service. Visitation was held Monday, April 23, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home. Berniece was born October 5, 1913 in Boone, the daughter of Clarence Marcus and Clara Grace (Davis) Starks. In 1933, Berniece graduated from Boone High School. She then attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. Berniece worked in the audit department at Younkers for five years. She then worked for Singer Sewing in Boone and then worked for Dr. Atkinson in Boone for four years. On March 29, 1947, Berniece married Loran Russell Shaeffer in Kansas City, KS. In the late 40's to early 50's, the couple lived in Omaha, NE. In 1959 the couple moved to California and in 1970 moved back to Boone. Berniece was member of the Central Christian Church in Boone and was baptized there in May of 1924. She was a member of the Girl Scouts and later served as a Girl Scout Leader. Berniece was a Big Chicago Cubs Fan and rode the CNW train with her father from Boone to Chicago to go to Wrigley Field. She enjoyed watching sports, including basketball and baseball and also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She enjoyed listening to KWBG Radio. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Clarence "Bud" Whitehill Starks; her sister Francesmae Martin; her husband Loran; her daughter Phyllis Kenemer and great grandson Kobe Baker. Berniece is survived by her daughter Linda Thacker and husband Keith of Ogden; her four grandchildren, Vicki Allard of Dunedin, Florida; Karibeth Baker of Boone; Scott Thacker of Ogden and CW Thacker of Ogden; her five great grandchildren, Kourtlin Thacker, Kalyssa Baker, Bryce Baker, Emily Allard and Elena Vasquez. Berniece is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Ted and Dee Shaeffer of Indianola; her sisters-in-law Margaret Shaeffer of Des Moines and Leona Shaeffer of Des Moines, Iowa and also numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
