Senior Nolan Eich takes a crack at this ball off No. 6 tee at Don Williams.
The OHS Lady Bulldog Golf Team added a milestone to their exception 2012 season with a blowout of the competition at the West Central Activities Conference (WCAC) meet held at Panora on April 30.
The ladies faced 13 opponents at nine meets, coming out on top all but once. They faced eight schools at WCAC and declared to them who was best, winning by an amazing 56 strokes.
Three of the top five individual scores came from Bulldogs Elisabeth Rinehart (98), Emily Rinehart (99), and Amber Breitbarth (99). Freshman Sveta Hansen (111) filled out the team scoring. The higher scores reflects that 18 holes were played for the conference meet instead of the usual nine.
On display, as has been the case all year, was the consistency of the ladies' squad with all six players keeping their front and back scores within just a few strokes of each other.
The next test for the lady golfers will be Districts on May 14.

Boys get off to slow start at WCAC

The Bulldog Boys teed off against a very strong field at the WCAC meet Monday, finishing a respectable fourth. Des Moines Christian handily won the event thanks to three golfers shooting in the 70's. The rest of the pack was much more crowded with just 15 strokes between second and sixth. Senior Nick Wassenaar led the way for the Bulldogs shooting 86 followed by junior Jimmy Rubin, whose scores have been consistently improving all season, with an 89. Rounding out the team scoring were Nolan Eich (90) and Mason Highland (92). The boys got off to a slow start with the team averaging seven strokes better on the back nine than the front. Coach Randy Johnson was speculant of what could have been had it not taken them as long to find their grooves. That is a feeling that golfers of any age can relate to.
