Industrial site advantageous for city
Oct 28 2009 12:00AM  By Melissa Braun Sun Staff Writer
The recent designation of industrial property in Enterprise as an AdvantageSite is another tool area recruiters hope to use to make Enterprise an industrial powerhouse in Alabama.

Phase II of the Yancey Parker Industrial Park was recently named one of 12 Alabama industrial parks advantageSites by Amazing Alabama, an economic development service of Alabama Power.

The designation signifies to industries looking to relocate that the area has completed a vetting process and can meet the needs of future industries.

Alabama recognizes that site location decisions require detailed information and shorter deadlines. Companies seeking to locate a new facility are allowing less time for site selection, site development and project construction, said Gary Faulkner, senior project manager for the Alabama Development Office.

To meet the needs of industry, Alabama’s economic development community is working through the AdvantageSite program to designate an inventory of industrial sites with sufficient site documentation for accurate, timely project evaluation.

In its listing as an AdvantageSite, Yancey Parker Industrial Park Phase II provides potential industries with specifics about its site location including square footage, purchase and leasing prices and utilities currently installed at the site.

Also included in its AdvantageSite listing is an aerial image of the site location.

Frank Thompson, director of the Enterprise Coffee Geneva Economic Development Corp, said the designation will be beneficial in the future job recruitment for the area.

The designation, he explained, gives industry a quick glance at the benefits it will receive in relocating to Enterprise and could result in more jobs for the Wiregrass.

The Enterprise site, Thompson noted, is the only Advantage Site south of Montgomery, which brings an added highlight to the Enterprise area.

Currently, Alabama has more than 430 industrial sites seeking Advantage Site recognition, according to Faulkner.

This designation is a very good honor for the area,‚he said, adding that the designation is proof that Enterprise and Coffee County officials are actively working to recruit jobs to the area.

Phase II of the park is approximately 75 acres, 61 of which are currently available for new industries.

It is owned currently by the Enterprise Industrial Development Board, but is available for sale at the negotiable cost of $35,000 per acre.
