Enterprise City School officials reviewed the five-year capital plan, which includes projects and upgrades for all 11 Enterprise schools, during the final budget hearing Aug. 26.
Enterprise City Schools Administrative Assistant Bob Tomberlin said the five-year plan is subject to change in the event of unforeseen expenditures.
Tomberlin said the state always wants the school systems to be ahead of the curve, and all items on the list are projects that need to be completed or will be completed in the next five years.
The first and biggest project is the completion of the new Enterprise High School at $42.6 million coming from local, state and federal funds.
Other projects include bond payment for the Enterprise Early Education Center for $1.2 million.
During 2009, the gym at Enterprise Junior High School will undergo a decking and roofing repair that will cost an estimated $350,000.
An addition of 12 new classrooms at various schools for $1.9 million is planned during 2010.
In order to get the school system up-to-date on fleet renewal, board members approved the purchase of 12 new school buses for $720,000.
Tomberlin said the state requires the school system to “get back on schedule” in regards to fleet renewal after 10 buses were totaled during the March 1, 2007 tornado.
Tomberlin said the bus purchases will bring the school system back to where it needs to be in terms of transportation.
The school system will continue bathroom renovation projects, replacement of air conditioners, painting, roofing, lock replacements, flooring and carpet and lighting upgrades at various schools throughout 2009 and 2010 for a total of $1,175,000.
In 2010, an electrical upgrade is being planned for Coppinville Junior high School and Dauphin Junior High School.
School officials have also budgeted $250,000 for future land purchases in 2010.
Window replacements at Holly Hill Elementary and Coppinville Junior High School are planned for 2010.
During the 2011-2012 fiscal year, school officials have planned to add physical education facilities and tornado shelters at Holly Hill Elementary School, Pinedale Elementary School, Rucker Boulevard Elementary School, Harrand Creek Elementary School and College Street Elementary School for $5 million.
A technology upgrade is budgeted in 2010 at all Enterprise schools for $283,539.
The biggest project slated for the 2012-2013 fiscal year will be the addition of baseball, softball, tennis and track facilities on campus for $3.8 million.
In the 2013-2014 fiscal year, the largest project planned is more roofing projects at various schools.
