EHS Band places in local competitions
The Enterprise High School band is finishing marching season with a high note by placing second and third in local competitions.
The band traveled to Dothan on Oct. 10 to participate in the Southern Showcase.
“The kids had a great show,” said EHS band director Charlie Ford.
The band received superior ratings across the board with the danceline and colorguard winning first place in its division.

Deadline set for EHS cookbook recipe entries
A deadline of Jan. 1 has been set to receive recipes for the Enterprise High School cookbook, which is being developed to raise money for much-need school materials.
Judi Stinnett and Pam McQueen are the organizers of a creative and delicious alternative way to collect funds for miscellaneous school items.
The Wildcat-themed cookbook, is a unique way of raising money for school material that might not necessarily be covered through insurance, said Stinnett, a retired EHS teacher.

Auburn, Alabama fans to compete for bragging rights
It’s Iron Bowl time and the S.O.S. Animal Shelter and Exit Success Realty are teaming up to bring residents a local version that means so much to Alabama and Auburn fans, and to dogs and cats looking for a home.
Iron Bowl fans will get the chance on Friday, Nov. 20, to put dog and cat food or money where their loyalty lies by bringing donations for the S.O.S. Animal Shelter to Exit Success Realty, located at 1208 Rucker Boulevard in Enterprise.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. and goes until the final gun sounds at 5 p.m.

County officials appointed to state committees
Coffee County Administrator Kathy Lolley and county engineer Randy Tindell were recently appointed to two of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s legislative steering committees and are taking an active role in shaping the Association’s legislative package for the upcoming regular session of the Alabama legislature.
“Serving on one of the Association’s legislative committees allows our members who are experienced in the legislative process, as well as those who are new to process, an opportunity to discuss key issues that are important to the needs of county government,” said ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield.

Anderson announces candidacy for district attorney
He has been an assistant prosecutor for about five years, but now Tom Anderson is ready to take on the next challenge in his career — district attorney.
His announcement comes on the heels of 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Gary McAliley’s announcement that he will not be seeking reelection.
Anderson, a 1986 graduate of Enterprise High School, said he is ready to take on the role of district attorney.

Second H1N1 clinic this week
The Coffee County Health Department has additional H1N1 vaccinations and is having a second vaccination clinic Thursday and Friday.
Beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, the department will administer vaccinations to an expansion of the priority group most susceptible to the H1N1 virus.
Those who will be administered the vaccination include pregnant women, household members and caregivers of infants 6 months old and younger, all children 6 months old to four and children between the ages of 6 months through 24.

Correction
After receiving information from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, The Southeast Sun published an article Nov. 4 that named Jeffery Todd Ivie and Cecil Maddix as individuals arrested on various drug-related charges.
The Sheriff’s Department later retracted the original information and said Ivie and Maddix had not been arrested.
The Southeast Sun apologizes for any inconvenience this might have caused.

Coffee County Sheriff, bonding agency reach settlement in court
Some might consider it a draw, but Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton and representatives of Freedom Bail Bonding left an Enterprise courtroom Monday both satisfied.
The two were at odds over Sutton’s alleged refusal to allow the bonding company to bail inmates out of the Coffee County Jail.
With no legal action taken, Sutton and the agents reached an agreement to allow the company to continue conducting business at the jail with one exception. Freedom Bonding Agent Tamara Cobb will no longer bond inmates out in Coffee County.

Not a bright future for health care says Congressman Bright
As a freshman congressman, U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright voted against the Democratic Party line Saturday, saying “no” to a health care reform bill that passed the House of Representatives with a 5-vote margin.
Bright was among 39 Democrats who opposed the legislation in the highly publicized vote.
“After months of deliberation, the House passed its version of a health care reform bill tonight. Because my concerns were not addressed, I voted against the Affordable Health Care for America Act,” said Bright.
